Should I wait to buy uniform from the pre-loved shop?

Not at all! Our recommendation for girls joining Girlguiding right now is simply to find what they need, when they need it. The new range won't start arriving until later this summer, so there is still plenty of time to get great use out of our current pre-loved stock.

What should my child wear if the pre-loved shop doesn't have their size in stock?

Please don't worry! While Girlguiding is a uniformed organisation, the most important thing is that no girl is kept from joining in the fun just because she doesn't have the right top.

If we don't have her exact section uniform in stock when you visit, any casual Girlguiding clothing, or country and region t-shirts, are perfectly fine to wear. For older girls needing a smart option, Girlguiding often have plenty of Ranger and Young Leader blouses available. Keep checking back with us, as our pre-loved stock changes weekly as donations come in! Pop us an email and we'll try to source what you need.

Will we have to switch to the new uniform as soon as it launches this summer?

Absolutely not. There is no set deadline to switch over. Everyone can keep wearing their current pre-loved uniform until they grow out of it or choose to update. Volunteers are fully aware of this and won't expect you to buy the new range immediately.

In fact, after the launch, there will be a long transition period where units will be mixing and matching old and new styles. The current uniform you buy from us today will remain fully official and wearable for a long time to come!

What uniform will actually be required in the future?

When the new uniform arrives, the only piece required to be "in uniform" across all ages will be a t-shirt. While there will be other options to choose from, the t-shirt is designed to be the most affordable and comfortable option to mix and match with your own clothes. This is wonderful news for the pre-loved community, as t-shirts are easy to pass down, wash, and reuse!

What about the environmental impact of introducing a new uniform?

This is where our pre-loved shop plays a vital role! Girlguiding is taking a slow, phased approach to the new launch specifically to minimise waste and keep things sustainable.

We know our members care deeply about the planet. By continuing to donate your outgrown uniforms to us and buying pre-loved, you are directly helping to extend the life-cycle of these clothes, keeping perfectly good textiles out of landfills, and reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing.

Will the new uniform be affordable?

Girlguiding is prioritising affordability and durability for the new designs, ensuring items are made to last so they can be easily handed down.

However, we know that buying brand-new retail uniform can still be a stretch for many families. That is exactly why our pre-loved shop exists! We are fully committed to providing a low-cost, friendly, and accessible option for everyone. No matter what changes come this summer, we are here to ensure that uniform costs never stand in the way of a girl joining the guiding family.
